Chap Andy

 Meet Chap Andy

For almost 50 years Andy McDaniel has been passionately presenting a living example of Jesus Christ to students.  Andy grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, in the heart of the Bible Belt, in a home void of spiritual emphasis.  Andy thought God just had a bad last name and he didn’t have a clue what went on behind the doors of the many churches in his community.  All that changed when a girl he liked invited him to go to a Youth for Christ Campus Life club meeting in high school.  Andy went to the meeting and in the process began a journey that led Him to the feet of Jesus Christ.  When Andy asked the Lord to come into his heart and take over his life, Andy knew that he wanted to do what his Campus Life Director, Joe Guthrie, did for him for the rest of his life – and he has!

Andy first went to Southeastern Bible College in Birmingham, Alabama, to study God’s word. From there he went on to serve in multiple Youth for Christ programs in Alabama,  Florida, Tennessee and Michigan as a ministry staff person as well as executive director.  Andy ended his outstanding 36 year Youth for Christ career in 2008 in Miami, Florida and has since assisted West Michigan YFC, providing Campus Life training to new staff.

From Miami, he moved with wife, Valerie, and their 3 grown children to west Michigan, to direct and develop Moriah Ministries, designed to serve the 26,000+ students and staff at Grand Valley State University in Allendale.  Andy serves Moriah Ministries as Executive Director and as our lead Life Coach. He trains our staff and volunteers in intentional relational ministry earning the right to be heard by serving GVSU students and staff. In this role Chap Andy leads by his clear example, mentoring and training the next generation of ministry leaders.

Recently a GVSU grad Andy served as Life Coach said this, “23 years on this earth and only one person cared enough to share the truth and the Gospel of Christ with me.”
